When You Give God a Yes

Scripture: “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is going to be revealed to us.” — Romans 8:18 (CSB)

There is something powerful about saying “Yes, Lord.”

We often imagine that our yes to God will lead us down a path lined with ease, celebration, and immediate blessings. We picture open doors, answered prayers, and smooth sailing. While God certainly blesses obedience, He never promised that obedience would be easy.

Sometimes, your yes will lead you into unfamiliar territory. It may cost you relationships, comfort, opportunities, or even your own plans. There will be moments when your faith is tested, your heart is stretched, and your strength feels depleted. You may even wonder if you heard God correctly.

Yet Paul reminds us in Romans 8:18 that our present suffering is temporary, while God’s glory is eternal.

Every “yes” in Scripture came with a cost.

Abraham left everything familiar.

Esther risked her life for her people.

Joseph endured betrayal and prison before he reached the palace.

Mary accepted God’s plan knowing it would bring misunderstanding and heartache.

Even Jesus said yes to the Father’s will, knowing it would lead Him to the cross before the resurrection.

Their stories remind us that God’s greatest victories often begin with costly obedience.

Perhaps your yes has brought tears instead of applause. Maybe it has brought waiting instead of immediate answers. If so, take heart. God is working in places you cannot yet see. Every disappointment is developing perseverance. Every delay is strengthening your faith. Every sacrifice is shaping you into the person God has called you to become.

The glory God has prepared for you is greater than the pain you are experiencing today.

Don’t measure God’s faithfulness by today’s circumstances. Measure it by His promises.

So if following Christ has become difficult… keep saying yes.

If serving has become tiring… keep saying yes.

If you’ve been misunderstood for obeying God… keep saying yes.

One day you’ll look back and realize that every tear, every sacrifice, and every difficult season was preparing you for something far greater than you could have imagined.

Your suffering has an expiration date.

But God’s glory lasts forever.

Prayer

Father, thank You for reminding me that obedience is always worth it. When the journey becomes difficult, help me remember that You are working even when I cannot see it. Give me the strength to keep saying yes, trusting that every trial is preparing me for the glory You have promised. Help me to remain faithful, knowing that You never waste my pain. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
