My Morning with God- Psalm 91
My Morning with God
Psalm 91: My Place of Divine Protection
Dwelling in the Secret Place of the Most High
Scripture Focus: Psalm 91:1–16 (KJV)
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” — Psalm 91:1
Good Morning, Beloved!
As I awakened this morning, my spirit was drawn to one of the most powerful chapters in the Bible—Psalm 91.
This is more than a chapter of Scripture. It is a divine invitation to live in the presence of Almighty God.
We live in a world filled with uncertainty. Every morning, someone awakens to unexpected news. Families are facing challenges, people are battling illnesses, relationships are being tested, and many are silently carrying burdens that nobody knows about.
But in the middle of life’s uncertainties, God has given us a place of refuge.
That place is called the SECRET PLACE!
And here’s what I want you to understand this morning: The secret place is not necessarily a physical location. It is a place of spiritual intimacy, surrender, prayer, and unwavering trust in God.
It is where we learn to rest when everything around us seems restless.
1. The Secret Place Requires a Relationship (Verses 1–2)
Notice the Scripture does not say, “He that visits the secret place.”
It says, “He that DWELLETH!”
There is a difference between visiting God’s presence and making His presence your permanent residence.
Many people seek God when trouble comes. They pray when the diagnosis arrives, when finances become difficult, or when the family is in crisis.
But God desires more than an emergency relationship with us.
He wants daily fellowship.
As I have matured in my walk with God, I have come to understand that my greatest security is not found in my profession, my finances, my accomplishments, or even the people who love me.
My greatest security is knowing WHOSE I am!
When I dwell in His presence, I can confidently declare:
“He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” — Psalm 91:2
2. God Covers What We Cannot Control (Verses 3–4)
Life has a way of presenting situations we never anticipated.
There are traps we cannot see, dangers we cannot predict, and circumstances beyond our human ability to control.
Yet Psalm 91 reminds us that God is our deliverer.
The psalmist describes God covering us with His feathers and providing refuge beneath His wings.
What a beautiful picture of divine care!
Just as a mother bird spreads her wings over her young, God invites us to take shelter in His faithfulness.
I have lived long enough to know that there were situations I could not fix, doors I could not open, and battles I could not win through my own strength.
But God!
There were moments when His grace sustained me, His wisdom redirected me, and His mercy carried me through seasons I never imagined I would survive.
Sometimes we recognize His protection immediately. Other times, we only understand His hand upon our lives when we look backward.
Reflection: Stop for a moment and think about something God has already brought you through. What seemed impossible then, but today stands as a testimony of His faithfulness?
3. Faith Does Not Mean Fear Will Never Knock (Verses 5–8)
Psalm 91 speaks about the terror by night, the arrow that flies by day, pestilence, and destruction.
In other words, trouble does not operate on a schedule.
Fear may visit in the midnight hours when the house is quiet and your mind begins replaying every concern.
Fear may show up during the day through a telephone call, a doctor’s report, an unexpected expense, or troubling news.
But here’s the revelation:
Fear may knock at my door, but faith determines whether I invite it inside!
God calls us to trust Him in the presence of uncertainty.
This does not mean believers will never experience suffering, illness, or loss. It means that even in life’s most difficult moments, we are not abandoned by the God who loves us.
Faith is not pretending that trouble does not exist.
Faith is believing that trouble does not have the final word over our relationship with God.
4. Heaven Has Not Forgotten Your Address (Verses 9–12)
One of the most comforting promises in Psalm 91 concerns the angels of God.
Verse 11 declares:
“For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”
What a reminder that God’s care extends beyond what our natural eyes can see!
We often travel through life unaware of the dangers we have avoided, the situations from which we have been spared, and the ways God has guided our steps.
But let us remember that this passage is not an invitation to live recklessly or deliberately test God’s protection.
It is an invitation to trust His loving care while walking in wisdom and obedience.
We may not see everything God is doing, but we can trust that His presence is not limited by our ability to perceive it.
Beloved, you are never outside the reach of God’s love.
5. What Was Sent to Defeat You Does Not Have to Define You (Verse 13)
Psalm 91:13 speaks of treading upon the lion and the adder.
These images represent formidable threats and dangers.
As I reflect upon this verse, I am reminded that life will present battles that challenge our confidence, our endurance, and sometimes even our faith.
There are seasons when we must confront grief, disappointment, betrayal, financial hardship, and personal setbacks.
But our difficulties do not have to become our identity.
We are more than the pain we have experienced.
We are more than the mistakes we have made.
We are more than the circumstances we have endured.
Your past may explain part of your journey, but it does not have to determine your destination.
Through God’s grace, we can find courage to rise again.
6. God Responds to Those Who Call Upon Him (Verses 14–15)
Now we arrive at one of my favorite portions of this chapter.
In the closing verses, the voice changes.
God Himself speaks!
He declares that because His servant has set his love upon Him, He will deliver him.
And then comes this extraordinary promise:
“He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble…” — Psalm 91:15
Notice something powerful.
God does not simply say that trouble will never come.
He promises His presence IN the trouble!
That distinction is important.
There have been times in my life when I prayed for God to remove a situation immediately, but instead, He gave me strength to endure it.
There were seasons when I wanted an explanation, but He taught me to trust Him without understanding every detail.
And there were moments when I did not have the words to pray, but somehow His peace met me right where I was.
Beloved, never confuse God’s silence with His absence.
Sometimes He is working in ways we cannot yet comprehend.
Keep praying.
Keep trusting.
Keep dwelling.
7. A Life Satisfied in God (Verse 16)
The final verse declares:
“With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.”
What a beautiful conclusion to this chapter!
As a nurse, I have spent many years caring for individuals in different stages of life. One lesson that has become increasingly meaningful to me is that the quality of our days matters alongside the number of our years.
Longevity is a blessing, but true satisfaction is rooted in knowing God and walking in His purpose.
Psalm 91 is not a guarantee that every believer will live to a particular age or escape every hardship.
Rather, it points us toward the God who is our source of salvation, hope, and lasting security.
I want my days to count.
I want my life to reflect His goodness.
I want my words to encourage someone, my hands to serve someone, and my testimony to remind someone that God is faithful.
And when my earthly assignment is complete, I want to know that I lived a life surrendered to Him.
My Morning Reflection: Where Am I Dwelling?
Today, I want to leave you with a question.
Are you dwelling in God’s presence, or are you simply visiting Him when life becomes difficult?
We spend so much time securing our homes, protecting our possessions, planning our futures, and preparing for unexpected events.
But what are we doing to strengthen our spiritual foundation?
Have we made room for prayer?
Have we opened our Bibles?
Have we learned to be still long enough to recognize His guidance?
Psalm 91 reminds us that our greatest refuge is not something money can purchase.
It is a relationship with the Most High God.
And that relationship is available to us today.
My Declaration for Today
Today, I declare:
I will dwell in the secret place of the Most High.
I will trust God when I understand His plan and when I do not.
I will not allow fear to govern my decisions.
I will seek His wisdom, follow His guidance, and rest in His faithfulness.
I will remember that I am never alone, even in the most difficult seasons of life.
I will not merely visit God’s presence when trouble comes.
I WILL MAKE HIS PRESENCE MY PERMANENT DWELLING PLACE!
Let Us Pray
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for awakening us to another day filled with Your grace and mercy.
Thank You for being our refuge, our fortress, our protector, and our source of peace.
Father, forgive us for the times we have allowed fear, worry, and the distractions of this world to pull us away from Your presence.
Teach us to dwell in the secret place, not occasionally, but continually.
Cover our families with Your love. Give us wisdom in our decisions, strength in our challenges, and peace in our uncertainty.
For those facing sickness, bring comfort and healing according to Your will. For those grieving, wrap them in Your loving presence. For those struggling financially, provide direction, opportunity, and the resources they need.
For those who feel forgotten, remind them that You are near.
Lord, help us recognize that our security is not found in the absence of trouble but in the assurance of Your presence.
Order our steps today.
Guard our hearts.
Renew our minds.
And may our lives become living testimonies of Your faithfulness.
We thank You for the promises of Psalm 91, and above all, for the salvation and eternal hope we have through Jesus Christ.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen!
A Final Word from My Heart
Beloved, as you move through this day, remember that you do not have to carry every burden alone.
Find your secret place.
Spend time with your Father.
Open His Word.
Talk to Him.
And when the noise of life becomes overwhelming, remember whose shadow you are dwelling under.
God’s protection is not just a feeling. His faithfulness is a promise.
Be encouraged, be strengthened, and above all, remain in His presence.
With love, faith, and encouragement,
