Don’t Let the Enemy Steal Who God Says You Are

I get the best downloads from God when I hear a great message. Pastor Leslie Eno gave a fireball of a message on Sunday that has resided with me all week. So when I came up with the title identity theft, I begin to look for scriptures that would confirm the message I came up with the two above!

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy…”

Identity theft doesn’t only happen at the bank.

Sometimes it happens in the mind, heart, and spirit.

The enemy may not be able to change who God created you to be, but he will certainly try to convince you that you are somebody else.

He will use rejection to rename you unwanted.

He will use failure to rename you unqualified.

He will use your past to rename you unworthy.

He will use disappointment to rename you forgotten.

He will use comparison to convince you that what God placed inside of you isn’t enough.

And if we’re not careful, we begin answering to names that God never gave us.

But 1 Peter 2:9 reminds us of our true identity: chosen, royal, holy, peculiar, and called by God.

The thief comes to steal, but Jesus came so that we could have life more abundantly.

Maybe one of the greatest things the enemy wants to steal isn’t your money, your possessions, or even your opportunities.

Maybe he wants to steal your understanding of who you are.

Because if he can make you forget who you are, he may be able to make you forget whose you are.

Today, check your spiritual identification.

Your identity is not your worst decision.

Your identity is not what somebody said about you.

Your identity is not the relationship that failed.

Your identity is not the door that closed.

Your identity is not your age, your title, your bank account, or your current circumstances.

Your identity is established by the One who created you.

So when the enemy presents you with a counterfeit identity, refuse to accept it.

Declare:

I am chosen.

I am called.

I am loved.

I am redeemed.

I am forgiven.

I am equipped.

I belong to God.

The enemy may attempt identity theft, but he does not have the authority to rewrite what God has already declared.

Prayer

Father, remind me today of who I am in You. Expose every false label that I have accepted and every lie that has caused me to question my worth, purpose, or calling. Restore my confidence in what You have spoken over my life. I refuse every counterfeit identity and choose to walk boldly as the person You created me to be. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Today’s Challenge

Ask yourself:

“Have I been answering to a name that God never gave me?”

If the answer is yes, give that name back today.

The thief doesn’t get to keep your identity. Take it back—and walk in who God says you are.
