Grace for the Growing
Scripture Focus:“Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters.” — Romans 14:1 (NIV)
There is something so humbling about Romans 14. Paul reminds us that not everyone is at the same place in their walk with God—and that’s okay.
As believers, we often assume that maturity looks the same for everyone. But Romans 14 gently corrects that mindset. It teaches us that faith grows in stages, and grace must lead the way. Some are strong in their convictions. Others are still learning how to trust God fully. Neither position makes one more loved by God than the other.
In my work as a nurse navigator, I’ve learned that healing doesn’t happen all at once. Patients progress at different rates. Some need more guidance, reassurance, and patience. Faith works the same way. We are all navigating something—grief, calling, obedience, healing—and God meets us exactly where we are.
Paul warns us not to quarrel over “disputable matters.” In other words, don’t major in the minor things. Let's keep the main thing the main thing Cat ( in my sister Carolyn's voice). She had a way of simplifying things like my Father Grover did. My Prayer is that we don’t allow preferences, opinions, or personal convictions to become tools of judgment. When we focus more on being right than being righteous, we miss the heart of Christ.
Romans 14 calls us to lead with love, not labels. To create space for growth, not pressure for perfection. To remember that God is the ultimate Judge—and He is far better at it than we are.
This chapter invites us to check our posture:
Are we walking in grace or criticism?
Are we extending patience or demanding performance?
Are we building bridges or walls?
The truth is, we as believers are a work in progress. And when we choose grace, we reflect the very nature of Christ—who welcomed us while we were still growing.
Today, let this be our reminder: You don’t have to rush your growth. You don’t have to defend your journey. You don’t have to compare your walk to anyone else’s.
Walk in love. Stand in truth. And trust God to do the rest.
Prayer:Lord, help me to walk in grace—toward others and toward myself. Teach me to love without judgment and to honor You in how I treat those who are still growing. Thank You for meeting me where I am and for continuing the work You started in me. Create in me a clean heart and renew a right Spirit in me Amen.
