My Morning with God- Numbers 11:4-6

🌾 Devotional Title: Craving What Was, Forgetting What Is

📖 Scripture – Numbers 11:4–6 (KJV):

“And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?

We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:

But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.”

🩺 From the Heart of the Nurse Navigator ❤️

I’ve learned that there are times when we cry not because we lack what we need, but because we long for what once comforted us—even if it came from a place of bondage.! Ohh now that is deep!

In this passage, the Israelites were no longer enslaved, but they still mourned the “flesh pots of Egypt.” As a woman who’s spent years ministering to the hurting—in hospital rooms, homes, and sacred spaces—I see this spirit often. I have also seen it in myself .We forget the miracles that sustain us daily and crave the “flavors” of our past. We grumble because today’s provision looks different, unfamiliar, or even bland.

The manna was a miracle—heaven-sent, sustaining, nourishing. But because it wasn’t flashy or seasoned like Egypt’s food, they called their souls “dried away.” Isn’t that how we sometimes treat God’s daily bread? When the blessings come quietly—like peace, breath, provision, purpose—we minimize them and romanticize our past struggles like it so much better, when if fact we prayed to God to deliver us.

As a nurse and a believer, I’ve seen how cravings can be dangerous—not just for food, but for familiarity, attention, or validation. Our flesh longs for Egypt even while God is calling us forward into promise and elevation!!

🪞Reflection Question:

What “onions and garlic” from your past are we still craving that God has already freed us from?

🙏🏽 Prayer:Let’s go before the throne

Lord, forgive me for grumbling over the quiet miracles You send each day. Open my eyes to see the manna—Your divine provision—right in front of me. Help me to let go of the false comforts of Egypt and fully embrace the freedom You’ve given. Teach me to trust You, even when the journey feels dry or the menu unfamiliar. As a caregiver and a leader, may I model contentment in You and hunger only for righteousness. Create in me a clean heart and renew in me a right Spirit.

Jesus’ name, amen.

📌 For Healthcare Workers :

To my fellow nurses, case managers, and caregivers—may we not let burnout or unmet expectations rob us of recognizing God’s grace in the mundane. Your “manna” might be breath in your lungs, wisdom in a moment of decision, or favor that follows you on your shift. Don’t let nostalgia blind you to now.
