My Morning with God-Nehemiah 6

I have been traveling a lot lately and have not been sharing my devotionals , I realize it time to get back in the game. Yesterday the message at both my churches was fabulous and has so much great Word for us. I am sharing the first one then I will share the other one later in the week. So lets dig in to it.

The Finished Wall

"The work was completed because the people had a mind to work."

Scripture Focus: Nehemiah 6

Devotional

There is something powerful about a finished assignment.

In a world where so many things are started but never completed, Nehemiah reminds us that God is looking for people who don't just begin the work—He is looking for people who will finish it.

Nehemiah was called by God to rebuild the broken walls of Jerusalem. The assignment wasn't glamorous. It required sacrifice, vision, leadership, and unwavering faith. But perhaps the greatest challenge wasn't the physical labor—it was the constant opposition.

As the wall neared completion, the attacks intensified.

Sanballat and Tobiah tried everything they could think of. They invited Nehemiah to meet them, hoping to distract him. They spread lies and rumors to damage his reputation. They attempted intimidation and even hired false prophets to create fear in his heart.

Isn't that just like the enemy?

Often, the closer we get to completing what God has called us to do, the greater the distractions become. The enemy isn't always trying to destroy us. Sometimes he simply wants to delay us. He knows that a delayed assignment can become an abandoned assignment if we're not careful.

But Nehemiah refused to come down from the wall.

His famous response still echoes through history:

"I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down." (Nehemiah 6:3, KJV)

What wisdom! I pray to build that type of unwavering focus!

Nehemiah understood that every distraction didn't deserve his attention. Every accusation didn't require a response. Every invitation wasn't from God.

Sometimes spiritual maturity is learning what to ignore.

The enemy hopes we'll spend so much time defending ourselves that we stop building what God told us to build.

Yet Nehemiah kept his eyes on the assignment.

Then came one of the greatest verses in the chapter:

"So the wall was finished..." (Nehemiah 6:15, KJV)

Those five words represent months of hard work, ridicule, opposition, exhaustion, prayer, leadership, and perseverance.

When the wall was finished, something remarkable happened.

The surrounding nations became afraid because they realized this work could only have been accomplished with God's help (Nehemiah 6:16). What the enemy intended to stop became a testimony of God's faithfulness.

Perhaps the "wall" God has assigned you isn't made of stone.

Maybe it's rebuilding your family.

Maybe it's restoring your health.

Maybe it's launching the ministry He's placed in your heart.

Maybe it's writing the book you've delayed.

Maybe it's starting the business He gave you years ago.

Maybe it's raising your children in the fear of the Lord.

Whatever your wall may be, don't come down.

Stay focused.

Stay prayerful.

Stay faithful.

The same God who called you to build will strengthen your hands until the work is complete.

As a nurse, I've learned that healing takes time. Wounds don't close overnight, but if they are protected and cared for consistently, healing comes. The same principle applies spiritually. God is rebuilding areas of our lives one brick at a time. Don't judge the process because the wall isn't finished yet. Keep showing up. Keep trusting. Keep building.

One day you'll look back and say with gratitude, "The wall is finished."

Not because it was easy.

Not because there was no opposition.

But because God was faithful.

• What "wall" has God called me to build in this season?

• What distractions have tempted me to come down from the work?

• Am I spending more time responding to critics than completing God's assignment?

• What practical step can I take today to continue building?

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for entrusting me with the assignments You've placed in my life. Forgive me for the times I've allowed distractions, fear, criticism, or discouragement to pull me away from Your purpose.

Give me the heart of Nehemiah. Help me recognize the difference between a divine opportunity and a dangerous distraction. Strengthen my hands for the work You've called me to do. Let me remain faithful even when opposition increases.

Lord, remind me that the attacks are often evidence that the work matters. Help me to keep building, keep believing, and keep trusting You until every assignment You have ordained for my life is complete.

May my finished wall become a testimony that points others to You and causes them to recognize that this could only have been accomplished with Your help.

Today's Truth

God didn't call you to come down and defend yourself. He called you to stay on the wall and finish the work. Your completed assignment will speak louder than your critics ever could.
