My Morning with God - Matthew 6:20 KJV

A Nurse Navigator Perspective

Where Are You Storing Your Treasure?

Scripture

“But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.”

— Matthew 6:20 (KJV)

As a Nurse Navigator, I spend much of my time helping patients and families prepare—coordinating care, planning next steps, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks. Over time, I have learned that what we invest in matters. Not just medically, but spiritually.

In healthcare, we often meet people in vulnerable moments. Many have spent years building careers, accumulating possessions, and securing what they believed would sustain them. But when life becomes fragile, it is clear that material things cannot provide the peace, healing, or eternal security that only God can give.

That is why Matthew 6:20 speaks so powerfully to the heart. Jesus reminds us to store up treasures in heaven—things that cannot decay, disappear, or be stolen.

From a Nurse Navigator’s point of view, this is a lot like spiritual preparation. In the same way I help patients prepare for safe transitions in life, God calls us to prepare for eternity. The treasures that matter most are not earthly things, but heavenly ones: the love we have shown, the people we have served, the prayers we have prayed, and the lives we have touched for Christ.

Those are the treasures that last.

Every act of kindness is a deposit. Every moment of obedience matters. Every time we choose faith over fear, love over selfishness, and purpose over distraction, we are laying up treasure in heaven.

This scripture challenges us to stop and reflect. Are we investing more in what is temporary than in what is eternal? Are our daily choices aligned with Kingdom purpose? If our lives were reviewed today, what would they reveal about where our treasure truly is?

As Nurse Navigators, and as believers, we understand the importance of preparation. But beyond every earthly plan, there is a higher call—to live with eternity in mind. When our treasure is in heaven, our hearts will be anchored there too.

Reflection

Take a moment today to evaluate where your time, energy, and focus have been going. Are you building only for this life, or are you investing in what will outlast this world?

Let’s Pray

Father, help me to look beyond temporary things and invest in what is eternal. Teach me to value Your purpose above worldly gain. Let my life reflect love, service, faith, and obedience so that I may lay up treasures in heaven. Create in me a clean heart and renew a right Spirit in me , In Jesus’ name, Amen.
