“For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.”
As a nurse of many years and a mom who has seen both the beauty and the brokenness of life, I find myself coming back to the simple things that matter most. In the clinical setting , I’ve held trembling hands, wiped tears, and offered comfort when words failed. At home, I’ve bandaged scraped knees and soothed anxious hearts. Through it all, one truth stands out: love is what heals.
Paul’s words in Galatians 5:6 remind us that outward rituals or labels—what we do to look “religious”—aren’t what matter most to God. Instead, He’s looking for faith that shows up in love. Not just a feeling, but the kind of love that rolls up its sleeves, steps into the mess, and serves.
In my years as a nurse, I’ve learned that people may forget what you said, but they never forget how you made them feel. A gentle touch, a kind word, a moment of presence—these are the ways faith becomes real in the world. As a mom, I see the same truth: our children watch how we love, not just what we say about love.
Paul says, “The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” That’s the heart of the gospel. Our faith isn’t proven by how many church services we attend or how many Bible verses we can recite. It’s shown in the way we care for the hurting, forgive the difficult, and reach out to the lonely.
Today, whether you’re at a bedside, in a kitchen, or in a crowded workplace, remember: God is calling us to let our faith shine through acts of love. It doesn’t have to be grand or perfect—just real. When we love people earnestly, we give people a glimpse of the God who loves them most. In reality we may well be the only church some will witness.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to live out my faith in real, tangible love today. Give me eyes to see those who need Your touch and a heart willing to serve. May my actions speak louder than words, and may Your love flow through me to everyone I meet. Create in me a clean heart and renew a right Spirit in me! Amen.
Reflection:
Who in your life needs to see God’s love through you today? How can you show them faith in action?
