“Power Above What We See”
“And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power…”
As a Nurse Navigator, I have spent decades watching power at work—machines sustaining life, medications stabilizing crisis, teams mobilizing in moments that matter. I have also seen the limits of human power. There comes a point where skill, science, and strategy reach their end.
Ephesians 1:19–22 reminds us that there is a greater power at work—exceeding, mighty, and toward us who believe.
Paul does not describe a distant power. He describes a directed power—one aimed at the believer. This is the same power that raised Christ from the dead, seated Him above all principality, power, might, and dominion. In healthcare terms, this is not supportive care—it is resurrection power.
From a clinical perspective, I know that position matters. Where something is placed determines how it functions. Christ is seated far above every authority, diagnosis, system, and threat. And Scripture makes it clear: God placed all things under His feet—not some things, not spiritual things only, but all things.
That includes fear. That includes uncertainty. That includes what keeps you awake at night.
As a Nurse Navigator, my role has always been to help patients and families understand what they are facing, what resources are available, and how to move forward wisely. Spiritually, this passage does the same. It reminds us that while we acknowledge reality, we do not submit to fear. We navigate life from a higher authority.
Verse 22 tells us that Christ is head over all things to the church. That means this power is not theoretical—it is accessible. We are not powerless observers; we are connected to the Head.
When life feels overwhelming, this scripture recalibrates our perspective. It lifts our eyes above what we can monitor, measure, or manage and anchors us in what God has already secured.
Nurse Navigator Reflection
Where have I been relying on my own strength instead of God’s exceeding power?
What situation do I need to reposition under Christ’s authority today?
How does knowing Christ is far above all things change how I face this season?
Prayer
Father, thank You for the exceeding greatness of Your power at work in me as I believe. Help me to trust not only what I see, but what You have already accomplished through Christ. Create in me a clean heart and renew a right Spirit in me. Teach me to navigate life from a place of authority, peace, and confidence in You. Amen.
Closing Encouragement
You are not navigating life alone—and you are not navigating it powerless. The same power that raised Christ is at work in you. Stand, decide, and move forward from that truth.
