My Morning with God

Seeking First the Kingdom - Reflections from the Beach

Scripture:

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” - Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

Embracing the Journey with God at the Center

As I sit here on the warm sands of the Dominican Republic, watching the waves gently kiss the shore, I’m reminded of the incredible gift that travel is. Traveling opens our eyes to the vastness of God’s creation-the vibrant colors of the ocean, the diverse cultures, and the unique stories of people we meet along the way. It’s a reminder that God’s kingdom is not confined to one place but is vast and beautiful, spanning every corner of the earth.

Matthew 6:33 calls us to “seek first his kingdom and his righteousness.” When we travel, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of new experiences, the desire to capture perfect photos, or the urge to check off a list of destinations. But this verse invites us to pause and prioritize something deeper: seeking God’s kingdom first, no matter where we are.

Why Travel Matters in Our Spiritual Walk

Traveling can be a powerful spiritual practice. It stretches us beyond our comfort zones, challenges our perspectives, and invites us to trust God in unfamiliar places. When we seek God’s kingdom first during our travels, we open ourselves to:

• Encountering God’s Creation: The beauty of nature-like this endless ocean and vibrant sunsets-points us to the Creator’s majesty.

• Connecting with Others: Meeting people from different backgrounds reminds us of the unity we have in Christ and the call to love our neighbors.

• Growing in Faith: Navigating new environments encourages dependence on God’s guidance and provision.

A Prayer for Travelers

Lord, as I journey through new places, help me to seek Your kingdom above all else. Let my travels be more than sightseeing; may they be soul-sightseeing-discovering Your presence in every moment, every person, and every place. Create in me a clean heart and renew a right Spirit with in me . Teach me to trust You fully, to embrace the unknown with faith, and to carry Your righteousness wherever I go. May the experiences I gather deepen my love for You and for the world You have made just for us . You told us to to take dominion over it . Having dominion doesn’t just me taking control. It also means taking responsibility. Lord help me to take the responsibility of everything you have given me. Enable my walk with you to be a reflection to others, regardless to where I am . Lord allow me to be a testament to others of your glory and your majesty. Amen.
