My Morning with God- 1 Timothy 6:7-8

Traveling Light: A Nurse Navigator’s Perspective

1 Timothy 6:7–8

“For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.” — 1 Timothy 6:7–8

As a nurse navigator, I have stood at the entrance of life and at the edge of eternity more times than I can count.

I have watched families argue over assets… and I have watched families cling to one another over a single breath. I have seen bank accounts full and hearts empty. I have seen modest means and rooms overflowing with peace.

Paul reminds us of something healthcare teaches daily:

We come in empty-handed. We leave empty-handed.

After decades in healthcare, I have never seen anyone request their title, their degrees, their jewelry, or their portfolio in their final moments. I have never watched a U-Haul follow a hearse.

But I have seen people reach for:

  • A hand

  • A whispered prayer

  • A word of forgiveness

  • The assurance of God’s presence

As nurse navigators, we guide patients through complex systems — treatment plans, diagnoses, next steps. But spiritually, we are reminded that life itself is a navigation toward eternity. And the question becomes:

What are we carrying that we were never meant to hold?

Stress over status.

Anxiety over accumulation.

Fear of not having “enough.”

Paul says if we have food and clothing — the basics — we have enough to practice contentment.

Contentment is not complacency.

Contentment is confidence in God’s provision.

In healthcare, I’ve learned that peace does not come from possessions — it comes from perspective. When you understand that everything is temporary except your soul, you begin to live lighter.

Travel lighter.

Forgive quicker.

Give freely.

Love deeply.

Because at the end of the journey, the only thing that transfers is what was done in love.

As a nurse navigator, I help people prepare for procedures and transitions. As a believer, I prepare my heart daily to travel light.

Today, ask yourself:

What am I holding onto that I cannot take with me?

And am I content with what God has already provided?

Lord, teach us to be rich in faith, steady in trust, and light in spirit. Help us to live with eternal awareness while walking through temporary assignments. Create in us a clean heart and renew a right Spirit in us ! 🙏🏾 Amen.
